The XXL variety: With her slightly ruffled, fluffy petals in a rich shade of hot pink, "Islander" will brighten up the moodiest day.
She has seriously solid stems, so you can also show off her giant flowers in vases and bouquets.
Great cut flower!
"Islander" combined with "Jowey Winnie" and "Totally Tangerine" is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Tip: Pinch dahlias as soon as they are 20cm to 30cm (8" to 12") tall: simply shorten the shoot tip by a third. This way, they'll form more shoots, flower more and look bushier.
And, if you're hungry for more dahlia details, have a look at my "DAHLIA DELIGHT" eBook. Everything you ever wanted to know about caring for your dahlias and, of course, full to the brim with beautiful photos and inspiration.
Planting: May, after the last frost — dahlias are sensitive to frost! Or pre-grow them in a frost-free environment.
Location: Preferably in full sun. Dahlias also tolerate partial shade, but they won't flower as lavishly.

🐝 Dahlias are often wrongly described as not insect-friendly. But for most of them, as soon as the flowers open up (even the fully double ones), Bees & Co can access stamen and pollen.
